Dexter Update

Momma here.

24 hours ago, little Dexter would not get out of bed, had to be carried down the stairs, and couldn't put any weight on his leg. As of right now, you wouldn't know anything had happened to him. He isn't limping at all and is back to his old self. I don't know what to think.

I'm not going to give him his Rimadyl because I am worried that it might be masking his symptoms and do my best to keep him from running and jumping about. Hard to believe he could change so much in such a short time. Could it be doggie zen?

I've had a limpy leg like Dexter has before and sometimes it goes away with a nice nap. My Mom watches me carefully and she's noticed that when I'm really tired it comes back. Just give Dexter and Mango lots of cuddles and treats and he'll be fine. -Bolo

It's a miracle! Or a lab. I'm glad Dexter is better. He could have just pulled a muscle or something like that. If he gets limpy after a play, keep an eye on it. I still ran my bum off when my knee ligament was torn, but I limped a lot after. That's how mom figured out something was wrong. Come to think of it, I never had that totally inactive, wouldn't move state like Dex did. Here's hoping he's perfect again.

When I came home from the run limping, Mommy gave me a baby aspirin to help with the inflammation and a massage deep in my ears (pressure points, she was told). I was all better within hours! Hopefully Dexter is too. Be careful though, Harlan was back up and running around like usual even when he had his bone chip, so you still might want the vet to give him the A-Okay. Paws crossed!

Your pal,

Mango Magikh!

BUT please do keep and eye on his PeeWee'ness!!

I used to scare my mom like that when I was a pee wee too. But she always got worried because she knew I had a really high pain tolerance so if I wasn't walking on it, it must really hurt.

Keeping my paws crossed that it's nothing serious... feel better Dexter!

Better be careful walking by the Old State House in Boston, Mango, because there's a shiny gold LION on the roof! And there's another one sleeping outside P.T. Barnum's old home in the South End. We've got to be on our toes at all times!

Your lion-hunting pal,

P.S. I think you're bigger than both of those lions put together!

I hope Dexter is really better. He'll show you without the medicine. I get better from stuff faster than the vet says sometimes.

Dozer and Coop said...

Mum had to take Cooper off Rimadyl too - vet thinks it might have given him some pacreatitis. But it is such good stuff and makes Cooper pain-free. Looks like you have lots of good advice above. Massage sounds really good!

Love, Dozer

I bet my Macky healing vibes did the trick. It always works like a charm!

We hate to say it but this is a very Labby sort of thing. Dory hasn't really been affected but my previous labs Em and Gillie both had occasional "Mystery Wounds". No sign of injury just some limping and tenderness that was gone soon after it arrived. My vet never had a definitive answer.

We are so glad you stopped by our blogs - the human has been a little blog challenged lately but new posts are going up today!!

Dory and Liza

PS we both want to smooch Mango and Dexter!

Oh Mango...blush...I have to take the credit for at least the temporary improvement of Pee Wee...he peemailed me hysterical that his leggie hurt... and wanted to know if I could come...but I was nursing Pearl and Opal's Auntie I couldn't get there. ( I seriously think he just wanted the blender...he said he wanted whatever was in his baby bottle at that pawty he went to with us when he slept for like 4 days straight.)

Anyway...since this was an emergency, I phoned Hector on his cell(that wheelie is always on the go) and had him (under my careful direction) apply copius quanities of MANGO SUDS to the sore section on his leggie. I am delighted that ur slobber works so quickly.

Now I can't promise that this will provide more than short term relief....but at least ya know what I did...and there's always more where that came from...

Pee whatever happened to the jam? You could always eat it on ice cream...ya know as a topping. That's what we do if Mumsie ever screws up a batch of fudge.....

Glad to hear that he is doing well. I have my paws crossed for him!

Sami & Baylee said...

Oh Dexter I forgot to tell you I had a limping leggie only cause I was little then and Sami pounded me so hard, rough playing outside you know and mommy had to take me to the Dr. too and they gave mme Rimadyl and it seems to make my leg so much better. It did bother me a few time but it's been a year and I haven't taken the medicine and no more limpies. The dr even checked me for that hip dip. thingie but I was fine. I sure hope you are too!

Glad Dexter is feeling better. Knee things are so difficult and we wouldn't want the little guy to have to have surgery.

Your friend,

We hope Dexter continues to improve! We sure don't want him to have to have splurgery! Maybe more Mango suds will do the trick. In the mean time, we're sending lots of Aire-zen.

We hope Dexter is better! Sometimes limpy legs do get better quickly and we hope this is the case!

Scruffy, Lacie and Stanley's Place said...

Mango..I'm thinkin' if he's still a little gimpy to apply liberal amounts of wet...ooey gooey mud to the leggie that hurts makin' sure you get a liberal amount over the pad on his paw and worked into his nails...then LET HIM LOOSE IN THE HOUSE. I'm figurin' in the mayhem that follows that he'll forget bout his limp...ur mama will forget bout it they do say mud has special healing properties....if ya want to supersize the ick effect...mix the dirt with ur suds...yummers!!!!!
