Baby Mango, Award, and Where I Sleep

Momma finally went through some of my old not on the pooter pictures to find some actual baby pictures of my small but still handsome self. Here is an early family portrait of me with Beautiful Raja, Grandpa Angus, and Momma.

Note that even as a pup I had the keen and intelligent expression signifying my most large and deep thinking brain (which has often been likened to a bag of rocks - that's a good thing, right?).

This is my most favorite portrait of my young self. Damn, I'm good looking!

I got this really nice award on Travis' bloggy. It is extra special because the winners were voted for by my friends! My award was for the "funniest blog." I am not sure what to make of that since, to quote the late, great Roger Caras, "mastiffs are never silly." I am merely a reporter of facts. I guess since that Pee-Wee came along there has been some silliness on my bloggy.

Thanks to all my friends! The Mango is quite proud of his award!

My friend, Honey, tagged me to show you where I sleep.

When I was a little baby, I always wanted to be as close to Beautiful Raja as possible.

She was not always appreciative of my affections as you can tell by her ears being back, but she warmed up to me. How could she not? Me being so cute and everything.

I am not sure if Beautiful Raja is sleeping here or just ignoring me.

Eventually, she would let me snooze with her. There are pictures someplace of actual cuddling, but usually I waited until she was in a deep meditation and then snuck into bed with her.

Raja also taught me how to sun bake and when it was time to move into a shady spot (without her I sometimes bake for too long and Momma has to jostle me out of my stupor lest I become heat stoked).

As a grown-up doggie, I used to sleep primarily in the living room on my large and comfy bed in front of the fireplace.

It was very relaxing.

But for some reason, ever since the Master added the living room addition, there is NO ROOM for my bed! Thus I am forced to sleep in the middle of the room if I want to relax with my family.

The Pee-Wee hardly ever really sleeps, but he does have couch privileges which I do not consider fair at all so sometimes when he is reclining on the couch, I position my large and not to be stepped on self strategically so that he is at least trapped in one place.

I also guard the couch when momma is washing the labrastink out of the blankets lest the little midget put his dirty self on the nice clean cushions.

When Dexter was a baby, he was confused about the proper method of sleeping.

To be precise, he didn't really get the whole pillow thing for some time.

I was also in charge of guarding his midget self from birds that pray in the back yard, so I had to let him almost "gasp" snuggle me when I was doing my baking slumber (he kind of looks like a little turd... and I mean that in the nicest way).

Fortunately, he is now big enough and smart enough not to encroach on Mango space and so my sun baked meditations are undisturbed.

If Momma is outside with me on my Observation Deck, I like to wedge my large and not made for small spaces self as close to her as possible. This way, I can enjoy a deep meditation, but will be instantly alerted if she should decide to relocate.

When Pee-Wee is feeling tired, but doesn't want to miss any action, he plops himself down wherever he is and sleeps with his eyes open.

If Momma is working on the pooter, we both relax in the dog cave (well, I relax and Dexter pretends to relax, but he is just waiting for action).

Once Momma and Master go to bed for the night, we are officially off duty and Dexter does finally actually sleep and close his little eyes. He even snorts and howls (and frequently falls off the couch).

And I go to my favorite spot which is my Mammoth Dog Bed located in my Mango Dog Cave (which from the looks of the walls is in need of an extreme makeover).

Gosh! Just writing all those words is making me feel kind of like a meditation is coming on...

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

OHHH MANGO!!!!!

That was the bestest post ever..almost as good as Hector gettin his bits cut off...that should be put up for POST OF THE MONTH!

GUESS WHAT? I was at the specialist vetty today & saw a 200lb brindle Mastiff named ...get ready for his...GOLIATH!!!!!!!!!!

My momma wanted to snuggle & give him kisses, but she thought she better act civilized & remain with the human talk...not enoramored doggie babble which she is accostomed to do once she sees a doggie she loves...She told them about you! & they LOVED your name!

Check your email in the next few days, OK! I need to ask you a question!

Love & Licks,
Randi

ps..Dexter was such a cutie butted little fur baby...& YOU ...oh my..what a handsome youngin!

Mum fell asleep reading your post! She said to tell you that you were the cutest pup and she just wants to eat you up. Personally we think eating Mango the Largest Mastiff in the World would be wrong and we have no idea what kind of condiment Mum would serve with you.

OMD What a cute puppy you were with your beautiful Raja!
I did notice some similarities with Moose + Dexter's swimming style back when you posted their video so I just looked again. Indeed this must be the proper labradog-in-kiddie pool behavior! I did note that pee-wee seemed to be chasing his tail in the pool which is just a little bit goofier than moose! The head dunking is something moose does too: http://dewdana.blogspot.com/2007/06/home-alone.html

Hi Mango! It was fun to see pictures of you as a youngster! And I was kinda surprised at being nominated for funniest blog, too. Personally, I think we both should have been in the "handsomest blogger" category, but oh well. Congrats!

See ya!

Woooo! The baby pictures of both of you are too cute, though I think full-sized Mango are the most handsome.

My ma ape says I make that Beautiful Raja face with the ears back. So maybe I could be Beautiful Wally.

Congrats on the award, Mango!

I think it is most unfair that your big doggy bed no longer fits in the room where the family gathers. I would think that's an essential piece of furniture!

Thanks for your wise words about the Relentlessly Huge puppy that The Girl is thinking about stealing. I am so used to being an only dog, the thought of a new doggy horning in on my Girlie is quite upsetting. But a large and distinguished fellow such as yourself would be a pretty pawsome choice, I think.

Wroo!

These humans go gaga over puppies -we cant understand it!
Say thanks to Dexter for the dinosaur info - if he can just give us a clue what a Mango smells like that should do it!!!
Also it would help to see a Mango footprint and we can compare them to the basset and the dinosaur - get an idea of size!
We loved your pictures today!

Hey Mango
How old was grandpa Angus when he crossed the bridge?

Noah x

Noah the Airedale said...

Oh dear, we're sorry we didn't mean to worry you by asking that question. Noah is fine, actually he's been really good since he got over his pinched nerve episode last October. He is 8 years old but has always been a sloth unless he sees something he is keen on. These days he often acts like a teenager especially around Tess & Willow.
The pictures of Angus just remind me of Noah.

So did you outgrow Raja??? She looked ginormous...I don't think I knew she was a girlie...no wonder you're so in touch with your feminine side...(Speakin' of which, Susan signed Bruvver up for BALLROOM DANCE LESSONS.) ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa!!!

And I know I've said this a million times but you were just SOOOOO cute as a puppy!!

Hey - I was sorry to hear about Raja's sickness - it must have been so difficult for your human. Tell her not to feel sad - I think she has done a great job raising you and you're lucky to have such a big estate to play in...if I did, maybe I wouldn't go out so much!
