Momma finally went through some of my old not on the pooter pictures to find some actual baby pictures of my small but still handsome self. Here is an early family portrait of me with Beautiful Raja, Grandpa Angus, and Momma.
Note that even as a pup I had the keen and intelligent expression signifying my most large and deep thinking brain (which has often been likened to a bag of rocks - that's a good thing, right?).
This is my most favorite portrait of my young self. Damn, I'm good looking!
I got this really nice award on Travis' bloggy. It is extra special because the winners were voted for by my friends! My award was for the "funniest blog." I am not sure what to make of that since, to quote the late, great Roger Caras, "mastiffs are never silly." I am merely a reporter of facts. I guess since that Pee-Wee came along there has been some silliness on my bloggy.
Thanks to all my friends! The Mango is quite proud of his award!
My friend, Honey, tagged me to show you where I sleep.
When I was a little baby, I always wanted to be as close to Beautiful Raja as possible.
She was not always appreciative of my affections as you can tell by her ears being back, but she warmed up to me. How could she not? Me being so cute and everything.
I am not sure if Beautiful Raja is sleeping here or just ignoring me.
Eventually, she would let me snooze with her. There are pictures someplace of actual cuddling, but usually I waited until she was in a deep meditation and then snuck into bed with her.
Raja also taught me how to sun bake and when it was time to move into a shady spot (without her I sometimes bake for too long and Momma has to jostle me out of my stupor lest I become heat stoked).
As a grown-up doggie, I used to sleep primarily in the living room on my large and comfy bed in front of the fireplace.
It was very relaxing.
But for some reason, ever since the Master added the living room addition, there is NO ROOM for my bed! Thus I am forced to sleep in the middle of the room if I want to relax with my family.
The Pee-Wee hardly ever really sleeps, but he does have couch privileges which I do not consider fair at all so sometimes when he is reclining on the couch, I position my large and not to be stepped on self strategically so that he is at least trapped in one place.
I also guard the couch when momma is washing the labrastink out of the blankets lest the little midget put his dirty self on the nice clean cushions.
When Dexter was a baby, he was confused about the proper method of sleeping.
To be precise, he didn't really get the whole pillow thing for some time.
I was also in charge of guarding his midget self from birds that pray in the back yard, so I had to let him almost "gasp" snuggle me when I was doing my baking slumber (he kind of looks like a little turd... and I mean that in the nicest way).
Fortunately, he is now big enough and smart enough not to encroach on Mango space and so my sun baked meditations are undisturbed.
If Momma is outside with me on my Observation Deck, I like to wedge my large and not made for small spaces self as close to her as possible. This way, I can enjoy a deep meditation, but will be instantly alerted if she should decide to relocate.
When Pee-Wee is feeling tired, but doesn't want to miss any action, he plops himself down wherever he is and sleeps with his eyes open.
If Momma is working on the pooter, we both relax in the dog cave (well, I relax and Dexter pretends to relax, but he is just waiting for action).
Once Momma and Master go to bed for the night, we are officially off duty and Dexter does finally actually sleep and close his little eyes. He even snorts and howls (and frequently falls off the couch).
And I go to my favorite spot which is my Mammoth Dog Bed located in my Mango Dog Cave (which from the looks of the walls is in need of an extreme makeover).
Gosh! Just writing all those words is making me feel kind of like a meditation is coming on...
Mango Man! Oh yeah!
