WTF Wednesday - Duvet Cover

Overheard on a shopping expedition to Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

Momma: Look at all those pretty duvet covers. You know, I have always wanted a duvet cover, but never got around to buying a duvet.

Sissy-in-law: ???

Momma: I mean, really, if stores are going to sell these things you would think they would sell the duvet that goes inside.

Sissy-in-law: What are you talking about? I have duvet covers.

Momma: Huh? Where did you get your duvet?

Sissy-in-law: DOH! A duvet! A comforter! Same thing!

Momma: What are you telling me? A duvet is a comforter? WTF?

Behold the Duvet Comforter Cover!

Hi Mango and Dexter - hey, as long as it's snug and warm that's all we're bothered about. Hmmm, looks comfy to us - just ripe for testing out!! Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.

My human says she didn't know duvets were also known as "comforters"! She always learnt them as duvets in the UK....but here Down Under, they call them "doonas"!!!!!

Humph. I thought DUVET was french for a Dachshund blanket.

Gail is saying how when she was a child in England (i.e. back in the Jurassic era, approximately), duvets had just been introduced to the UK and were known as 'continental quilts'. I think the super-expensive goose down ones are the best, but then I don't pay the dry cleaning bills.....

DUVET is absolutely a term for covering on bedding used exclusively for the French Poodle Non Sporting Division!! :)

Woof! Woof! What a LOVELY duvet. It is ready for you Mango ... Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

We are big proponents of duvet covers here!! The cover is SO much easier to wash than a down comforter!! Readily de-haired by a spin in the dryer as well. And when certain little French bulldogs happen to thrown up on the duvet cover (vs the duvet itself), it saves mom another embarrassing trip to the laundromat since she can wash it at home!!

I have no idea what a duvet is, but it looks pretty and comfortable!

I think this whole duvet thing might be a regional dialect thing because I was nearly 30 when I heard it for the first time and I grew up in a fairly civilized household in a suburb of DC! The first person I heard it from was Canadian so maybe it is a canuck thing!
whatever kind of cover it is, it is lovely and slobber free!

The shoe is on the other foot Mango. See how humans are always saying 50 words to mean one thing? how are dogs supposed to understand what they are telling them when they use 50 different words to say the same thing? gggeeessh. and you get so much grief for not being able to go in a box. sigh. humans. (shaking head.)

Mom is laughing at all these comments - She hates duvets, they never stay in place inside the duvet cover. That one is very nice, only thing missing is the pups:)

I think duvet is French for, "buy two things instead of one so we can have more of your money." P.S. Every time I read the title WTF Wednesday, I crack up :)

Mango and Dexter, we don't have a duvet. We don't have a comforter.
We just have a blanket!!
That clematis is morally dormant in the winter!! They are very tender plants. There was just that one. I have 3. Two were dormant. The plant never froze in 14 degrees
in 16 degrees in 18 degrees in 20 degrees for 23 days of hard freeze days. 23 days in a row!! The weeds froze. It is truly a miracle!!
Kiss the pups for me, Fern

We thought a duvet was what one put the comforter in to keep it clean. At least that's the way it works at our house - either way, that bed is just begging for some Mango slobber.

What!? we are confused--duvets and comforters are NOT the same thing--and everyone needs a down filled duvet, especially in our country. there is nothing as warm. so don't settle for just a synthetic comforter bed in a bag crap!!! hehehe

Woozers! Those stripes make that bed look a million miles long. Mom said to tell your mamma that the duvets you can buy from L.L. Bean are awesome. She has one that is baffled and she loves it. It baffles me what that means, but I sleep on her big bed all the time and I like it too.

Inky and Molly said...

mmmhhh, we think there is a difference...

Our pinkie calls it duvet but our other pinkie says doona.
They think a duvet (originally) had proper feathers in it and is the heavy type, whereas the comforter is the lighter type, polyester or maybe even wool.

We don't mind either. The pinkies have both on their bed which suits us (as we spend a bit of time in there)...

You ready for an embarrassing story?? My Gram and Gramps has one of those things, one time when sleeping there I somehow managed to get INSIDE the stupid thing. Of course when I could not extricate myself I began hopelessly spinning in circles and flying around the bed. At 2am. G&G laughed the next morning but they did not seem so amused in the dark at 2am. you are VERY lucky you are relentlessly huge because those things will try to swallow you whole.
