Spring Training

Alert reader, Mayzie (who has most beautiful stripes such as myself) posted this PSA and I am sharing it with you.

Please, just say NO to Mango Sticky Rice. Diced Mango? Oh the horror!

Now that the day is one hour longer, I am working very hard on my mastiff moves.

I must say that I have gotten a bit rusty over the winter months, but I am determined to get back in shape.

I made a movie compilation of yesterday's practice session. Momma has moved my ramp to the stairs so that I can practice going up on an incline and you will see us do a bit of loose leash walkies to warm up.

Sadly, I think I was a bit distracted during my leg weaves. Sigh. But I did do a most awesome recall to the deck (I don't like coming to the deck because it usually means playtime is over) and I saved some of my best moves for the end.

Anyway, here is the movie.

Thanks to some helpful tips from my pal, Moose, I am now able to create still photos from my action packed movies for those of you with the low speed internets to enjoy! So here is a recap of my spring training.

First my ramp work.

Momma needs to lift her leggie higher I think for my most magnificent weaving.

This one is always a crowd pleaser. Awwwww.

For reasons that are unclear to me, one of my "tricks" is to run around this pile of rocks. I am very speedy.

Run through Momma's leggies. This is kind of hard because at first I did not know I had to duck down and I would get stuck halfway through and Momma would laugh so hard that she fell over. Sheesh. That is kind of embarrassing so I started stooping a little to keep her from acting like such a fool and ruining my most serious dance moves.

The mighty mastiff leap!

I wish this wasn't so blurry because it is quite difficult to execute. I find it takes considerable concentration to jump through the hoop without leg entanglements.

My big finish! Just looking handsome!

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

You sure have some groovy moves there, big guy... very impressive... the jump routine was perfectly executed. Ohh, how we love those mango slobbers.

Hey there Mango buddy!

What a star! I am most impressed with that hoop thingy..Geesh, that's fantastic! You certainly have a Spring in your step. Was Dexter confined during this high energy workout?

Schwang said...

What great moves and rhythm. You almost took that hoop with you. Are you starting a series of dancing with the relentlessly huge?

The 'splorin' Wolfies said...

we are really impressed! you were having such a great time there Mango and your tail was just a wagging! and you built up some pretty nice suds too! we loved the video especially at 1:52 where we BOL

Well, we think you have handsome down pat, just remember: Training is gradual, do not overdo at the beginning or you will become discouraged.

So, tell Mama to practice being taller and lifting her legs higher while you take a nap.

Thank you for posting the pics - we miss out on so much here in the boonies where high speed is just a pipe dream. We were totally impressed with your dance moves. We want to see the one of Momma falling over laughing though. Do you stand on your Momma when she falls over too? We do - our Mom tends to lose her balance so we make sure she is nice and steady by pinning her to the ground with our feet.

Mack said...

What super pawsome moves you have there dude!
You should totally think about opening your own dance studio...

Tucker said...

Mango those are some crazy moves! The hoop jumping is awesome. I'm surprised there is a hoop big enough.
woof - Tucker

Pee.S. i think you needs a drink, you've got a little slobber on your face.

Busby and Raymond said...

Mango man, your leap through the hoop was very impressive. We think your Mom needs to get taller if the through the legs trick is going to work well. Can she possibly wear high heels next time?

Frankie Furter said...

Are you trying out for Dancing with STAR????

brooke said...

Mango your momma is most impressive that she can lift her leg to get over your relentlessly huge body!
I must say i really like the loose leash walking segment in the beginning where you walk from one end of the screen to the other... makes me think of a sesame street video.
I also lol'd at your jumping through the hula hoop! you're quite light on your feet!
Darwin just gave you kisses through my laptop screen so I must go now and clean it off.

Woowoo, Mango! For a big guy, you sure can bust a move! How tall is your momma? I don't think mine could lift her leg that high. And the grand finale with you looking Most Handsome was just the best!

Wiggles & Wags,

PeeS. As for the diced Mango, my mom says education is key. The more doggies that know about this Most Horrible Abomination, the better!

Mango man, you are unbeWEAVEable! I wish I had half the moves and coordination as you do! My favorate was the big leap! Mommas favorate was the loose leash walk...she was laughing out loud, she said it was so silly it looked like it was out of a movie.

Wags and Woofs,
Mack and Mia

PeeS. Tell your momma to get some really shnazzy go-go boots so she can be taller for you! She is totally ruining your groove baby!

Peeess...Hey Mango...I looked at the nurse pic ya snapped of me in that somewhat questionable style? Did you see I have my face on my knees? I can look up my own skirt.

Marjie said...

You are a great representative for Mastiffs all over. You are a truly handsome specimen! My momma says I'm not getting younger, so my agilities are just playing outside with the boys. Pretty easy, and fun, right? We play ball, and stick, and chase. Sometimes they bring friends and it's more fun. Suggest to your momma that she import children to the estate. You don't want to keep them, because the children get the best foodibles.

I am most amazed by your mastiff moves and your frothy suds. And I very much admire your beautiful brindle coat. I hear all of the best dogs are brindle. And I believe that we need to have a discussion about how to defeat this horrible epidemic of crazy obnoxious younger brothers.

Holy Hoola Hoop! Mango you are such an athletic dude! Wow! I had no idea you could jump like that! So impressive! But I have to also say that your momma is quite the athletic presence! Three cheers for mom! You are a great team!

Wild Dingo said...

OH my dawg, we'd better git a move on it! you're gonna show us up! that was PAWESOME! I LOOOVED it!

i cant' remember, are you doing recalls up to the deck in the middle of training so it doesn't resonate that training/playing is over? so you go up there and send him back out during your training time? when its time for us to go in, usually both dogs are cooked anyway so they don't mind...

mango looks GREAT. seriously. he looks GREAT on leash. did you find a trainer for him to work with the other issues? and great idea on getting him used to a ramp. awesome.

Laura, Lance, and Vito said...

WOW! that was a really good video, great job! Mango was quite speedy! And you have gotten very good on balancing for those leg weaves too!

Koobuss said...

Hi Mango,

First, I'd like to say that I'd never eat diced mango or any other kind of mango for that matter, so you are safe, at least from me, Mango.

Second, I thought your video was just magnificent! Your dance moves were terrific. And considering that this is still only spring training, I'd say that you are in mid-season form.

Third, you must consider, Mango, that maybe your Mom can't lift her leg any higher. This is something that happens to humans after a while, so I've heard. So, don't be too hard on her.

And finally, Mango, I loved your soundtrack. Your video editor does an outstanding job!

Love and Koobuss Kisses,

pee ess And you do look very handsome at the end.

Regarding your question about Jasmine, I don't have an answer right now, but we are taking the steps to make it possible to bring her back. Check out my Farmer blog tonight for some exciting news that isn't about Jasmine, but does affect her. Sorry to be so vague, but it's a surprise!! :)

Oh Mango, me man!!!

I have a lot to learn from you! I mean, you are so cool doing all that trick stuff! I'm gonna work on it. Me muffur is an agility and obedience champion---maybe I could learn from her, but she is an impatient teacher with her wayward child.

Thanks for sharing... and how DO you make still photos- me has to ask Moose. I don't even know how to put music on my videos. Like I said, I have a LOT to learn from you!

You are certainly light on your feet for such a relentlessly huge doggy. Keep up the good work!

P.S. I would never eat any of that mango rice stuff...
well, I might taste it. If it's really good maybe I'd eat a small bowl, but that's it. Unless it was really, really good (I should warn you that my palate is game for just about anything.) Okay, I won't lie. I'd eat as much of it as I could get. Sorry.

Sue said...

Wow Mango, we didn't know you were such an accomplished athlete. We especially liked that jump thru the hoop. You do need to consider a bib, though, for those close ups.

Holy crap that's why I felt a big 4.5 quake on thursday. I didn't know why things were falling off the walls. Now I do... hula hoop practice at the mango estate.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Mango! I can't believe I've been missing this!! That was the most awesome movie ever! (Hsin-Yi has already watched it 4 times and keeps squealing) - I must say, having been with you on this dancing journey from the beginning, when you were just starting to learn those moves - you have improved so much! Seriously! Like you're so fast and slick now - I remember when youre Momma was emailing Hsin-Yi for tips coz she couldn't get you to do stuff fast enough or you got stuck or something - but wow, in that video, it all looked amazing and we could really see a difference compared to older videos!

And you're very good to learn that trick to duck down when going through the legs - I haven't quite got that yet and I still get stuck between Hsin-Yi's legs regularly...

I also love your loose leash walking - I hadn't seen it before and it looked just so professional! I especially liked the bit where your Momma suddenly changed direction but you were right onto her! Love your focus & wagging tail - such energy & athleticism - I never expected it from you! I am just so very, very impressed!!

Hsin-Yi says your Momma deserves HUGE applause for all the great work she has done with you - especially during your long winter - it really shows! Not just the tricks you can do but your whole attention and happiness during training time - and it even feels like the special thing you had between you and your Momma has got more special.
