Daycare and the Gauntlet of Doom

Daycare is one of the high points of my week. Unfortunately, they have remodeled the daycare place and now getting out to see my friends requires a nerve wracking trip down the corridor of doom.

You see, that hallway goes right past the beauty parlor which is a place I truly despise. Sure, I like being wet, but on my own terms, so whenever we go to daycare I have to be on high alert lest the grooming salon door open and suck me in.

Here I am checking with momma and bracing myself to make a dash for it.

I find that just keeping my head down and focusing on my destination helps. But seriously, I don't know why it is required for me to suffer through this every week.

Once in the safety of the happy playtime area I am able to put that hallway behind me and greet my pals. Like Jake, the big fat yellow lab.

I encourage him to run around as much as possible to work off some of that blubber.

I thought this was Miss Khyra herself at first. Especially since she spends most of her time on that rock playing queen for a day.

I had to tell momma to get lost. She is so nosy always wanting to photo me when I am busy with my friends. Hey! Go get your own friends... it's Dexter time!

I am teaching some of my more athletic buddies how to launch from the rock on to the air conditioning unit. This particular lesson was foiled by squirt bottle lady who is just outside of camera range scolding me for being something called an instigator.

Well, all good things must come to end I suppose. They use walkie talkies so when momma comes to pick me up, squirt bottle lady beeps the humans in the yard to "bring in Dexter."

Which means another trip down the hallway for me. Be brave, be brave...

See those legs behind me? That is short pants dude and he likes to herd me down the corridor like I am some big old cow. That is pretty embarrassing.

Of course there is shopping to do before it is time to go home. I am starving by the end of the day and quite put out that I have to wait to get home for my foodables when there are all these labrasized bags right here at daycare.

Drive woman! I could expire from hunger!

Dexter done!

P.S. I made a movie to demonstrate the scary hallway. Try not to be frightened because there is action footage of me playing with my friends in between my vexing trips past the salon. Watch by clicking here.

Dexter Dude!

Good to see you. And that looks like a great group of friends. I might even go to daycare if I thought I would have nice friends like you and your pals.

I hate squirt bottles too.

Despite that hallway that they make you walk down all ALONE, we think your daycare looks like lots of fun - you have some great pals there. That Khyra lookalike is huge! We don't care for baths at all either, so we don't blame you for your fear of that lonnnnnnnngggggggggg hallway.

Have a good weekend.

Dexter, where was Mango? Why didn't he go with you to the day care? Would you feel safer with his presence?
Gosh, watching you making the nerve wracking trip down the corridor of doom made my bladder empty involunteerily!
Got to go mop the floor right now before my mom steps on it!
Love y'all.

That hallway would scare us too. Hey we liked the movie. They need to get another, smaller rock for the short dogs to climb on.

Dexter - Whatever that instigator thing is, it must be good, because I get called that all of the time - Natasha.

Oh Dexter you are so brave! You look like Moose going down the long narrow side yard back when the viscious neighbor puppy "Snow White" lived next door! Head down and a steady quick trot with a few glances back to momma. You don't go so fast as to arouse suspiscion but not so slow as to invite trouble. And definitely look as cute as possible while you are doing it which you have clearly mastered! Moose understands! Looks like you had fun once you were there! Is there a little pool or something or were you wet from squirt bottle lady? I guess that sorta rats you out to momma as to how much instigating you did that day! Does short pants dude ever say 'git along little doggie'? Tell him to try that when he is herding you.

Dexter you made me smile this morning! Such a silly boy in the Hallway of Doom, fun video!

I believe I spied Miss Halle (black standard poodle) making a cameo appearance at your dog camp along with Miss Khyra!

Jeter has been going to day camp too. When I pick him up he has had so much fun that he instantly falls asleep in the car on the way home, then he takes another big nap. He loves it so much that he has forgotten to pee in the house!!! YAY!!! Tee hee hee!!!!!

Good to see you back, Dexter!

Gosh, I can imagine how scary that hallway would be. I mean, I dislike baths at home, though I usually just submit myself to my fate and let mom do whatever she wants. I just look ultra-gloomy in the bath. Sometimes it makes her laugh. Weird, huh? Why would she laugh when I put on my gloomy face? Don't get me wrong, I love her a whole bunch, but she is sometimes confusing....
But I sure wouldn't like to be bathed by someone else!

Dexter... you're kind of a drama queen with that hallway. hehehe.

It looks like you changed your mind and wanted to go back and play some more. Maybe Mango should escort you up and down the hallway so nobody can grab you.

You are looking SO BRAVE walking down that horrible hallway...at least they could have a nice carpet layed out..or a drinking fountain..or some extra dog floof to sniff along the way...

Why oh why did they put the groomer place in your hallway? Are they trying to keep doggies AWAY from doggy daycare? Because that would be a great way to keep me out, I know that fur sure. Also, don't let them call you an instigator. Explain to them that you have excellent leadership skills and should be considered for a management position.

Hope everything is well with you and Mango and also your humans,

wags, Lola

pee s. Do you know where I can order a rock like that?

Doggie Daycare sounds like fun - I know all about being groomed, being a poodle and all. It's not so scary when Mom does the grooming though

Thank you so much for nominating my photo for the Photo of the Month at The Bone Zone (http://dogswithblogs.com.au/bonezone/viewtopic.php?t=1450)! I am honored!!

The expression on my face may be a little wild for a lady, but believe or not, I like the photo myself!

It is unfortunate that I can't vote for myself because I am not a member of the Dogs with Blogs...

Gosh, Dexter - that hallway does looks scary! I have a scary hallway in my home too - only the floor is made of that shiny wood - which used to be fine but now has suddenly become extra scary and I just can't walk on it and stand there crying until my human loses her patience and yells at me to stop being a silly girl - and then I scramble across it quickly and of course, because I'm not walking normally, I start slipping - so I make myself even more scared...(sigh) - this is a big problem in our house at the moment and my human is very frustrated and trying teach me that the floor is what I have been walking on for months now with no problems and has not suddenly become scary...but it has! I know it has!
