WTF Wednesday - Special Weekend Edition by Dexter

Dexter here, reporting on a special weekend edition of WTF Wednesday.

I was unexpectedly transported to agilities school on Friday night. No worries, right? Agilities rocks any day of the week.

But when we arrived there was NO agilities equipment.

Instead, the ring had these giant jelly beans all over the place.

I wasn't too worried until all of a sudden this little Miss Asta look alike leapt up onto one of the jelly beans.

WTF, little WFT! That looks dangerous!

Then she started doing all these weird things like stand on two leggies. Heck, I can't even do that on level ground, let alone on top of a big blue jelly bean.

There must be strings attached someplace. Maybe this was a doggie magic show.

Then a bunch of black and white doggies all came out and started doing gravity defying moves.

Is this some kind of a joke? Where is the dog walk? The tunnel? The (gasp) weave poles? Has the DOH gone completely mad?

This was starting to look a bit ominous to me.

I spotted another labradog in the crowd and he certainly was NOT engaging in any death defying foolishness, so I felt safe until I saw THIS!

End of days! End of days!

Ruh roh. This is looking bad for yours truly.

To my horror, I saw the DOH raising her hand and heard her shout out the ominous words, "Dexter wants to go next!"

My friends, I most certainly did NOT want to go next. I wanted to go to the nearest exit, but then momma brought out the foodables bag and I am ashamed to admit that I gave in to my baser instincts and suddenly found myself in the following precarious position.

And before I knew it, I was entirely upon the jelly bean.

I used all my mighty labramuscles to steady myself and in between nommy cookies I overheard trainer lady (who also happens to be one of my favorite vet ladies) talking about how this is good exercise and will improve the condition of my already well muscled bottom.

Back on level ground, I was ready to go home and I will share that I was strangely exhausted after just a few minutes atop the jelly bean.

You can watch the movie I made of my adventure here.

What next? I am not sure it is an experience I would like to repeat and I found it very disturbing when trainer lady told momma that the jelly bean would be good for the Relentlessly Not Moving and Afraid of Large Objects too.

Dexter done!

P. S. From Momma...
The class was full of hard core training people (unlike me), several of whom had already introduced their dogs to the therapy ball. We learned that this kind of work uses different muscles than running and jumping and is quite good for overall structural well being. Everybody also commented on how just five minutes on the ball is exhausting for the dog. Hmmm....

Dexter was actually quite game about the whole thing. He put his front end on without any coaching and was very stable (although a bit nervous) with his whole body on. I have no doubt that he could become quite adept at it.

Will I buy one for Dex? Probably. Will I put Mango on it? Doubtful. Stay tuned.

Here is a movie I took on the way home just because I always kind of like it when we have to wait for the train. Something both soothing and exciting about watching a train go by. Hope it views OK. Blogger made it look funny and shrunken.

We wonder if Fenris would like one of those.

I seemed to be missing the second video but the first video was PAWSOME! Dexter you are SOOO very brave. I am a bit nervous myself and with all those people and strange beans, I don't think I could have gotten on so bravely no matter how many cookies!! WTG!!!

Hi Dexter,

Oh, we're sorry but you've done it now! FH actually HAS one of those weird large jelly bean thingies and she said she'd never THOUGHT about putting us doggies on it - until now. She expecially liked the comment about it being an exhausting exercise - oh woe is us, woe, WOE is us!

Loved the train vid - you're so right, there is something really soothing about watching a passing train. Well, as long as you're not already late to get somewhere that is, he he he!

i have to admit, at first i was like, WTF?? w/ all those huge jelly beans too. BOL~! ;)
did you get to maybe get a taste of one of those huge candies????
mum says she understands y'all about the train thing.

Samantha said...

Whoa! That looks like a giant Reece's Pieces factory! Actually, Mom has one of those she's been using for me and my sisfur. I'm certainly not wild for it, but my sis will do anything without thinking for a crumb! Mom agrees with your Mom about exercising muscles that we don't use enough and it IS tiring - whew! GOOD, GREAT job Dexter - you were incredibly brave! And I love the train movie - again, miss the east coast for a scene like that!

You are MOST BRAVE! Mom and Dad have ball thingys that they balance on, but they aren't jelly bean shaped, so I think I'm safe. For now...

Sam said...

Very brave, Dexter. Your half-Lab cousin Marge over here would have a lot of trouble getting up on that thing, I think. She's scared of that kind of stuff. I'd love to try it someday, but I fear I will waste my money if I buy one..

Heather and Ellie said...

Now THAT is cool. I've never ever heard of it before, but what a great exercise!!

Dexter, you are so brave to get up on that thing. Next thing you know you'll be stronger than the RH.

Marjie said...

Mango will not like it. Mastiffs do not belong atop giant jelly beans. Mastiffs belong on solid ground, since we are solid beings.

OMDAWG the other day i was in my closet deciding what i would store and what i would take to move with me to Europe and i saw the therapy ball. i got it out and just started playing with it with them. both dogs loved it right away and juno especially got her front paws right on it. took a few times for loki but he kept trying to BITEY It! so funny. it made me wonder if i should bring it. probably not. but ya, that ball is a great tool for them.

ps. Our ma ape is eyeing those things. NOOOOOOO!

The Thundering Herd said...

Holy labradude! We thought you were going to get to EAT a giant jelly bean. That we would understand.

Eric said...

We are not big on jelly beans this side of the big pee but WFT!! (wire fox terrier of course) I'm liking what my peepers saw of the A Merry Can jelly beans. Look like special doggie ones no?? I've always wanted to be a circus dog, having the springs already loaded in my leggeds, think I could do a paw stand on that jelly bean. You did good Dexter. Bravo! Bravo! Lovedc your movie. Will you be going again to tray another one?

Wiry loves Eric xxx

Kari in WeHo said...

oh my I have never heard of that!

Niamh said...

When you said jelly bean we thought that you were going to be able to eat it. Your momma is as bad as our person. I learned platform pivots today and I am sure she is now going to want one of those jellybeans and make me balance on one! Will your momma have to get an XXXXXL one for Mango?

Your friends,
Niamh & Ambrose

Uh oh my mom has that kind of therapeutic ball that collecting dust for years. I have to kick it to the gabbage can asap!
Dexter, refrain yourself from that foodables bag, please?

Ginormous jelly beans look like fun. Perhaps a few well placed claws...

Momma went "AWWWwwwww SQUEEEEE" at the header photo of the two of you with almost-touching snooters.

My dogs have been up on the balls and absolutely loved it. I really really want to get them a properly sized ball as I know how much it would help their conditioning. Why do they have to be so fricking expensive!!!

Lola said...

Wow, Dexter. That's pretty cool. I don't think I could do that, and Franklin would probably just freak. You handled it very well. I'm not sure how Mango would like it, though. Not too much, I'm guessing.

lotsa licks, Lola

We have never seen a jelly bean-shaped therapy ball but we know the round ones are supposed to be very good for humans. We would love to see Mango on one:)

I think that the great big jelly beans would look like eggs next to the Mango Man!!!

You have a Pawsome Weekend!

woo woos, Tessa

Puglette said...

i have never seen such large and brightly colored jelly beans before! they are kind of alien looking. where was the giant basket and easter bunny? you are a very good dog to try this experiment, dexter. regular agilities are enough work for us puggies!

Kira said...

I think I could probably get Murphy to jump up there...but I'm not sure I would want to! He can be a little bit clumsy and I can see it ending badly for everyone involved!

Those ginormous jelly beans look SO Scawy!! You are so brave Dexter!!

tula said...

hey dex!

more 1:1 momma time.. woo'll do anything, even sit on a big ole jellie bean.huh.

your brudder had alot to say about it in skool too. just sayin.

Your momma will make you do anything for a bloggie post... sigh. I think those jelly beans look delicious?! Did you try to bite one? I would. I think the RH should keep his mastiff self on the ground. Last thing you want is a jelly bean hip atrophy. Sheesh. then he couldn't go to class and wiggle over to sing to my cousin.

Mimi and CC Cabana said...

I want one of those jelly beans! It's like yoga for dogs! I think you should take wagers on Mango getting up on one of those. You might end up with enough to finance a trip to Europe!

Busby and Raymond said...

We think Dexter needs a bigger ball! Pretty brave, Labradude. Those must be some really good treats.

AC said...

Kona says you are much braver than she is. She would have been looking for the exit too.

PS-To Dexter and Mango, Thanks so much for your donation to LIVESTRONG and supporting our marathon training! We couldn't make it happen without all the help!

Welcome to the dark side of core training for dogs, LOL! I have one for my Sophie girl as she has crap hips and it's one of the best things I can do for her. Spike, my agility/flyball dog LOVES the peanut ball and was quite coordinated on it, from day one. Sophie, being the labradog that she is is still a little suspicious of the whole thing, unless there's food in it for her. Good for you, for jumping in and making Dexter work on it!! Very good for the dogs!!

Cool exercise class! We have some similar balls at home that Murray has used in the past. Kids with autism have lots of balance / muscle tone issues. We never thought about getting Clive up on them! Now, there's a thought ...

Hilarious dexter- very odd agilities for sure! I bet you could pop that thing when you get your howard hughes nails full grown, they don't look so long in the video. Did anyone bounce one of the beans? I would love to see a room full of doggies with a bunch of bouncing beans.
Mango... on the bean... Ohhh you could sell tickets to that show.
I can't believe you did not make any training jokes about that last video... You must be tired from your circus bear act!

Woof! Woof! That is sure a very interesting agility class. I don't remember doing that when I was in class years ago. I do remember those agility hard core training moms n dogs ... they made me extra nervous. I am glad that you made it Dexter. Mmmm I can wait for Mango to try it. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

Heather and Pumpkin said...

They make therapy balls big enough for Mango? I was thinking he would have to use the Chicago "Bean"!

Honey the Great Dane said...

Oh Wow - Dexter - those gigantic balls looks COOL!!! I can't help wondering, though, of they would stand up to giant breeds...can't wait to see if Mango can/will get on one! I don't think I would ever have the confidence - I'm wimpy even climbing all 4 feet onto park benches and stuff like that - I'm happy with my front 2 paws on anything and I can jump over stuff too but climb up and put all 4 paws on something...? Er, no thanks! Too scary!

My M said to thank you because she has a thingy for the train too. As for the exercise, it makes so much sense. As for the labramuscles and narrative BOL!!! Sorry Dex!

ocmist said...

WOW,Dexter! That was amazing and now Robert and Grammy are trying to figure out a way to get one of those for us... Thanks... We are not to sure that we would like something like that, but Grammy says if it would tire us out some.... The CC Pups

Grammy says she doesn't think your Mom should put Mango up on one of those things cause she'd hate to see her flattened like a pancake if he got it rolling and rolled over her with it! OC :)
