Update on my Walkies

In lieu of letting stupid PeeWee post I am being forced against my will to provide a link for yet another ode to the black lab. This time by some gal named Sophie who has entered the labradork contest.

Loyal readers know that the Mango is not always keen for walkies, especially when they involve seeing strange humans and whatnot so I am going to show you how confident I have become lately thanks to good advice from my doggie pals and lots of hard work by my large and always wanting to improve myself self.

So as is my wont, I decided to stroll up to the Monty Sorry skool and see what all the commotion of late was about.

Big construction! The Mango is intrigued.

Now, I will tell you that first of all, nervous people make ME nervous. Yuh, people who are all like,

"EEEE Big dog! Scary!" And then they stare at me which makes ME nervous and I am all, "EEEE scary human looking me dead in the eye and sending off bad vibes."

And sometimes when that happens, I go AR AR AR because I am scared and nervous and then momma gets mad and stressy and then I get stressy and then, oh ick!

But I LOVE construction guys. In fact when I had my big jailbreak adventure last summer, Master found me at a construction site two whole miles away from home all watching the action. Maybe it is because most of my estate visitors are tool time pals of Master because when I see a guy in scruffy jeans and work boots I am so happy.

This tool time guy was smart enough to ask first if he could meet me rather than walking up to me. It is much less scary for me to decide whom to great than to have people just walk up into my face!

And most humans don't know how to great a doggie anyway. Like patting on the top of the head can be scary and threatening, but under the chin feels good. People also like to stick their faces right in mine! How rude! I wouldn't do that to them! But this guy was totally cool.

He told me he has a doggie just like me at home! Wow! How cool is that? He knew just how to bobble my head and pinch my cheeks.

That's the end of my story, but for any of you doggies who are sometimes called "reactive" or "ruffians" you will know how proud momma was of me. I even strolled with momma and tool time guy down the street for a bit and we chatted about slobbers and whatnot. It was great.

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

P.S. I almost forgot! Momma made a REALLY SHORT movie because she was more nervous than I was. Readers with keen ears can hear a little edge to her voice when she says, "let's go." I think she needs training in CHILLING OUT! Watch the movie here. Holy crap! I sure am far behind in reading bloggies. Guess I know what I'll be doing this weekend.

You are very brave Mango. Being around all those very loud noises and liking it! Me, I would probably drag Mom down the road skinning her chin on the asphalt doing my best to escape the noisy giants.

I'm glad you got a proper greeting from the construction dude :) I think I'd like him too,

Dear Mango..what a great adventure. I likes construction guys too...they don't care if you rub against their legs and leave hair and doggie smells on their pants! I second the idea of play dates for you and his doggie.

Mango, you are so brave you will know have to work on your Mom. We don't like it either when people just think they can touch us without asking. Heck we had a little kid slap me on the A$$ when I wasn't looking, I could have taken their hand off. My mom really but them in their place because they said I was mean and should not be out in public. My mom told her that maybe she should teach her kid better manners and maybe he should be on a leash. So cool the Construction dude has a Mango look-alike. Slobbers, The Hounddogs.

Wow Mango!! Good job on making friends with the construction guy! :) I have a slightly reactive dog myself (Sophie, but just to unfamilar dogs to her) so I understand well how you have to celebrate the victories where you find them!! And thanks for letting PeeWee post about Soph's entry, it's kind of you!!

Yay! Way to go Mango.

You can tell you mum that my mum has a problem with nerves at walk time. This is because I slipped my lead in traffic when a saw another dog and wanted to run across the street and play. Now mum has a panic attack and wrestles me to the ground whenever she sees another dog. Silly mum!

I'm sure those constructions guys will get to know the real Mango very soon!

Mango, I know exactly what you mean about people who come straight up to you and don't ask!
That happens to me - they reckon I look cute but I am very scared of humans I don't know.
Then I kinda make growly under my breath noises which seem to frighten humans!
I am one very scared dog and they just dont get it!
So nice to meet a doggie who understands - that construction worker was just perfect. Ask first!
I think you like construction workers like you say cos you see them about the estate.
Also they don't seem to scream - have you noticed how some humans scream and screech!
Martha xxx
ps couldn't include Bailey here - she is happy with all attention - throws herself at the feet of total strangers...........!

We're not so keen on construction guys here. Or maybe it's just roofers. We've had four different guys come out to walk on our roof (not to mention 'Uncle' Larry who has been painting the house) and neither of us is too keen on the stomping on the roof. Mom says we'll move into the House With Wheels when the new roof is put on the House Without Wheels so we don't drive her crazy. (Hello?!? It's the guys on the roof who will be driving us crazy!) I, I, I, Me, Me, Me... Now, back to you. You are MOST BRAVE!!!! And to think, another person with a relentlessly huge doggie such as yourself! How cool!!!!

Hooray Mango! (we need to go back and read about your jailbreak as we are most amused by the idea of a giant such as yourself taking an unchaperoned stroll through he neighborhood, more amused by the gasps of alarm!) My ma ape needs to take CHILL PILLS like your ma ape. Just because I am a ruffian around strangers and AR AR AR and show my teeth which is apparently most alarming to apes who do not know that deep down inside I am a scaredycat. Because of that we walk at 4:30 in the a.m. Phhbt.

Oscar Bean, Super Teen.

ps. Are you sure you don't like construction workers because he was your favorite of the Village People? I'm pretty sure that is why Wally loved police officers and why Ethel loves biker men with large moustaches and why OtP enjoys people in slightly offensive Native American costumes.

I'm so proud of you, Mango! Me and my mom know how impressive what you did is! I gets kinda nervousy when doggies I don't know come down the street at me. And then I try to act all big and tough but inside I'm just feeling like jello.

So good going! Although I think I woulda been skeered at that construction site.

That's a job well done, Mango guys are cool. It's interesting that you like them alright, because they are often a source of fear for dogs that don't like regular people.

Penny and Patches said...

Great job, Mango! I see that you are wearing a "power steering" collar! I, Patches, wear one anytime we leave our own back yard. Penny doesn't need one...she's too old to run very far or very fast, but I am a different story. I could be in the next county in 2.3 seconds flat!

Oh Mango, I hates it when little kids go to pets me on my head. I get all scared with those pointy fingers commin' at my eyeballs. So I barks and back away. Momma says I'm a work in progress and carries treats with her for the short hoomans to give me instead of poking me in the eyeball.

Now, this labradork competition - your Momma authorized this? Is this breed descrimination? I think so, we should have a big dog only competition dontcha think? Labradorks don't count as big doggies no matter what they say.

We're proud of you Mango-man! My humans know all-too well what it's like to have a reactive dog. (Wait, are they talking about ME?!) Although my reactivity is different from yours, my folks and sure understand how enormous and joyful those little improvements can be. One good walk can outshine a month full of bad ones. These might be small steps, but it's major work to get there!

Congrats to you and your mom!

I could not help but notice that you new tool time pal wears a vest that looks a little like Pee-wee's night time walkies vest. I wonder if you saw that and figured he was one of your pack ? ha ha ok maybe not!
p.s. yes we could tell momma was a bit stressy sounding. Doe she ever Ar ar ar at strangers? That would be something!

Ciao Mango!
I so much understand you!
I know what you mean...
When I go out for my walks I can find nice people giving me a smily stare or people looking at me as if I was a monster...
I can smell this second type and my human is always scared because I tend to be willing to smell these people and because they are not acting rationally, my human is scared they might start saying I am an aggressive doggie...
And yes... I also meet rude people touching me over the head witout respect!
I am really a good doggie - I never treated anyone badly...
Once I was with my human having an ice cream sittin in a bar when suddenly three kids - from 6 to 10 yrs old - came shouting towards me... Can we touch her? by the minute they said it they were all over me.... my humans whitened... but I was really nice... phew...
that was close...
So yes, lucky you found a person who knows who to say hi to us doggies!
(I have more patience with two-legged people than four-legged you know...)
Hope you meet your friend again!
Ciao Lucille!!!

Oh Mango - never mind your Momma - I'M proud of you!!!!! I think you've come SUCH a long way and it's amazing to see. You look so chilled in that video - even just with the construction noises and big machines - lots of doggies would have freaked just with that!

yeah, isn't it nice when you (finally!) meet somneone who knows how to deal with dogs?

I know what you mean about your Momma's voice - Hsin-Yi gets like that but she does this nervous laugh instead, so if you watch a lot of my movies with the original sound, you would hear her doing a lot of nervous laughing! It sort of covers up her nerves and at the same time she thinks it'll make me think that everything is "fun" - coz I like it when she laughs - but she doesn't fool me with this coz she sounds so different - like a breathless chipmunk! :-)

Wow, thats just great MangoMan! My friend aunt Carmen is also scared of stuff I dont understand. She have lived a rough life before she came to Helena, and she is very insecure with other doggies. She even got bitten once, not so long ago. What kind of dog bites an old lady? She is 11 years old. Not cool. Anyway. I think it was great that the tool guy knew how to talk to you in Mango language. Hope you guys meet again!
