I am Not a Pea by Dexter

As humiliating as it is to have momma call me PeeWee in public (which she does far too often) now she has taken to calling me Pea because I guess she is just too lazy to say two whole syllables. The RH insists that she is calling me "Pee" but I don't think that can be right, do you?

It is true that I have not posted much lately but that is because I am far too busy enjoying my labralife to the fullest.

I did have a bit of a set back with a nasty ear infection. The worst part was that it made the Relentlessly Easily Confused think that I required his special attentions.

Like here, I am just minding my own business and taking a snooze in the dog cave...

And then the RH is all in my face.

He seemed to be put off by the odor from my ears and was quite persistent in biting me all the while making weird high pitched sounds and he even attempted to hump me a little.

That was incentive enough for me to agree to a trip to the vet because, frankly, his Relentlessly Inpet nursing had me so pissed off that I even had to snap at him. Get off me you big dope!

I was pretty miserable, I have to admit and momma says I was a big baby at the vet. Well who wouldn't be with the evil lab assistant sticking her entire hand down my sensitive labraears.

Now I have to go into the dreaded wet room every morning for ear cleaning and drops. I hate it and try to run away, but momma always catches me eventually.

I do get a nommy cookie after I my morning treatment. Not such a bad deal. And my ears are feeling much better (thanks for all your comments about the steroids - kept momma from FREAKING out).

I am super excited because tonight I start my nose work school! Oh boy! There won't be any movies for a while because momma says she does not want to be distracted during my exercises, but I bet she will convince Master to come and video at some point. I sure hope so.

Speaking of Master, he is spending a lot of time in the basement. I am still unsure what he is up to, but he says he is having fun. Here is a short movie of me inspecting (note that momma calls me PEA, not PEE).

Dexter done!

P.S. Today is the last day to vote in Mango's contest. Just thought I would let you know. He will post the winner, along with the special mastiff choice awards on Sunday.

P.P.S. Thanks for all your good thoughts about the Bernese Mountain Dog that went missing here in Massachusetts. He found his way home but not before wandering all the way to Acton which is quite a hike for those of you familiar with these parts.

Pea, we are so glad your ear is getting better and we are even happier that Mango didn't give it a pee flush.

Hi there Pea!
Pleased to read that your ears are feeling better. I can well believe that a trip to the vet seemed a better option than being humped by the RH....

Dear Dexter,

Glad to hear that your ear is better. Us long eared guys are prone to infections, so I feel your pain. I am sorry that your family insists on referring to you by such insulting nicknames. I would refuse to acknowledge them unless they call you by your proper name. That will show them!

Your friend,
Ambrose

Hi Dexter

We are so pleased your labraear is so much better. It can be most uncomfortable having an infection.

We have remembered to vote for Mango's competition and look forward to seeing the results.

Ummm, with regard to the goings on down in the basement are you having an ensuite built for yourself and Mango? Will it be purple?

Have an excellent weekend.

Dexter Dude...so glad to hear you are feeling better. We think you will be great at nose work, you have the RH to practice on, after all. Oh, and try to remember that he means well, even when he is totally inpet.

I am sure your Mom is saying Pea and not Pee. Unless she is giving you a command to pee and I am sure she isn't. Least I thinks I am. My Mom gives really confusing commands sometimes. And U should hear her when I pee on her flowerbed it's NOoooo! Stop that! or RUDE BEAST, STOP THAT! At least she lets me pee on trees. ~Fenris

Yes, Desxter, over here we are pretty much convinced that it is "Pea" as in "Sweet Pea."

Sorry about the ear nasties. I hope it's all better very soon.

Doesn't the RH at least get some credit for trying to help, in his own, inpet way? ;-) And Pea/Pee - what's the difference? I mean it's better than 'Bert' (and don't ask me how my parents got 'Bert' out of Fiona... I think these people are putting something other than oregano in their spaghetti sauce, if you know what I mean!). Have fun with the nose work - you've got a good-sized snooter, so I can see how it would need its own work out!

Mango did provide a unique motivation for a needed Vet visit. You have to give him that, Pe...Dexter. Tell momma that you're just too old for the childhood nicknames and you need to be called Dexter now. Pee Wee's kind of cute. Pea just won't do. It's a vegetable! Ewwww.

lotsa licks, Lola

Is Momma developing a vegetable fixation? Will she begin calling the Relentlessly Huge "Rutabaga" or some such? I have been told there are vegetable-like items in a magical place called a "supermarket" which are named "Mango". Maybe it's a sign. I sure hope not. I would not want to admit that my friends were becoming veggies.

Oh Dexter, we are glad your ears are getting better.
There is nothing worse than sore ears.
And to have to put up with that Mango at the same time......really it is too much!
We also agree that your mom calling your Pea is not befitting a dog of your status.
You must have a serious word with her.
We would not have been brave at the vets either - thank goodness you at least got a treat!

ps can you let Mango know that Martha's mouth was like that cos she was trying to hide the flowers she had just eaten! She is getting very sneaky!

Hey Pea - good to hear your ears are better. Good luck with your nose class - hope you get to sniff lots of good things.

Tell your Mom we give her an A+ for outstanding identification skills in the basement. But we think you and RH better beware of that new tub - could it be designed for pup use?

Happy weekend.

Dexter, I hate that ear stuff, yuck, but I hope the cookie was worth it all. I am certain your Momma is calling you Pea, my Mom calls me all kind of nicknames. It doesn't matter as long as treats are involved, she can call me anything she likes. Get well my pal. Mango please give him a break, ear stuff is yucky enough.

Hi PEAWee. I'm very much glad your ear is starting to feel betters! I bet that wasn't fun at all. But at least you got a cookie outta the deal. And gosh, it sounds like your new class is gonna be a hugely great time!

Oh, and I just wanna say I'm sorry abouts Brudder Ranger's postie the other day and what he said abouts black labradogs. Gosh, you sure were brave protecting your momma and making sure that old lady with a cane knew her place. Old ladies with canes can look innocent but that's how they get you!

I am so glad to hear that your ear is getting better! Sorry that Mango turned out to like Labradudes, though. I have a feeling that's going to hurt his rep with the ladies!

I am worried that they're building a dog bath down in the basement, Dex! Do not go back down there!

Jed and Abby in MerryLand said...

Hey, Dex, it's me - Abby. You're lucky the RH was just doing bitey-face in your head region. If you lived with Jed, he'd glue himself to your side and lick your ears until they were raw. Even if you moved way across the room, he'd follow and keep licking. I think the ears infection put out a musky scent that the RH, being a frustrated lover, mistook for a delectable female muskiness. Lacey may mean well, but it's my opinion RH needs to find a super-sized gal soonest. Glad your ears are at least getting better.

Looks like Master is building a master suite in the basement, which might be for you & RH; a nice batchelor pad with a separate entrance for sneaking in the ladies. But then why would it include a bathtub? An indoor swimming pool would be nice, but what doggie wants a bathtub? Hope this doesn't mean an end to your spa days. Maybe your grandpawrents are moving in? That could be nice, petting & treat-wise.

The "Pea" name must be an endearment; it can't be that your momma is too tired to say two syllables for you when she says "Bubba" [clearly two syllables] all the time for RH. Maybe she's saying you're her special "pea in a pod" because you're so much like her: eager, energetic, adventurous, brave and determined. I say treat it as a compliment, absent a good reason to assume your momma means to insult you and I'm sure that's not true.

Wags from my heliocopter tail [really; I can make it go in complete circles really fast] -
Abby.

About the "Pea" thing... does that mean the RH is the "Princess"?

OH dear, I know too well the jollys of a good ole ear infection... eary wash, steroids, the lot.

I haven't been too bad this year, but we are just coming into spring and I will be infected sooner or later.... never ending.
