Some Recalls with Miss Tula

Guess what? I, Mango, am enrolled in Canine Good Citizen skool! That's right! I had my first class last week. It is really hard. I had to sit still while some lady came up and looked in my ears and touched my feet, but it paid off because after that she brushed me which felt really nice. Momma says I am only learning how to be a good citizen in the skool yard, but who cares? It is fun!

Loyal readers know that I, Mango, attend graduate skool with Miss Tula. She is HOT! Now some doggies are afraid of her, but not the Mango! No way! So a lot of the times I am partnered with her during walkie practice where you promenade around the ring as close as you can to your walking buddy.

This week we were walking so close I was almost faint from her Tula'ness. She kept sneaking looks at me and even did a grrrrr. Oh yeah, playing hard to get, right? Next week is the last class, so I am hoping to get in a quick butt sniff. Oooo la la!

We did some super duper hard recall work. Trainer dude setup a bucket of cookies and we each took turns going over and getting a cookie right out of the bucket. Nommy! But then we had to do a recall thingie past the treat jar!

Tula went first and got off to a great start. I can't believe her acceleration!

Ruh roh! Seems the treats are more interesting than her momma.

But she got it on the third try! Go Tula, go!

Me? I made it like a shot first time. Of course part of it might be trying to get away from trainer dude who is clearly a bit touched in the head all flapping his arms like a big chicken.

And again! Notice my turn of the head away from the food to demonstrate that I, Mango, made a relentlessly huge decision to go to momma and avoid the food despite my obviously emaciated and starving condition.

Wanna see an action video? I thought you might. Just click here.

Yuh, and it being Halloween, check out the lovely Tulip. Subtle, but charming.

I opted for a seasonally appropriate bandanana. But I took it off halfway through school because it was kind of tight.

The DOH is still super busy, but she promised some blogging time today to visit my pals. I certainly hope so.

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

P.S. My pal, Bolo, is running a contest to show how much your humans look like you. I submitted a picture. Hehehe. You can enter by clicking here.

Excellent work, Mango. The hu-dad is laughing at the mere thought of any member of The Herd walking past food. Ever.

Khan we go tiptoe through the TULA-lips?

PeeEssWoo: So, which would woo choose if woo had to: tight TulaButt or FLOOFY stuff?

Mango how you avoid the yummy treats, we will never know!
You are such a clever boy :))

Impressive work, Mango Man!! I love your bandanna. I bet it's hard to find things that fit your Mangoness.

Happy Howl-o-ween to you both!!

Wow Mango, you are not only handsome but smart too!

Impressive! But let me give you some advice, buddy (from one who knows all too well). Do well, and they keep raising the bar. So be careful, I'm just sayin....

P.S. (on behalf of mom) - she got your mom's email and is bein' lazy. If she can stop messing around with us soon, she promises to respond :)

Such a good boy you are running past those treats!

Raymond and Busby said...

Mango, your recall work is most impressive. Even though you were clearly starving, you proceeded to ignore the cookies and go directly to your Mom. Wow. We do think it had a lot to do with the super-chicken arm-flapping trainer guy, but hey, whatever it takes! We hope you sneak a butt sniff from Tula next week.

We're with the Herd on this one - we don't do the 'walking past food' thing particularly well. Or at all. Some of us (namely me) learned from the Best Beggar of All Time (aka TaiChi) that no foodable should be passed by At Any Time. And lemme tell ya, when the old girl was teaching I LISTENED!!! *ahem* I like your header photo, but really? A 230lb bumblebee? Dude. Where's your sense of dignity? (Or proportion for that matter...) Ah, I think it's just that I'm jealous of Tula; all that Mango-attention, and none for little me. *sigh* Heehee! Happy howl-o-ween, to all of you!

Mango. You make us giggle. Always. But we have a question. If you are obviously emaciated and in a starving condition, how come your bandanana is too tight? We think you are trying to fool us on Halloween. But we can't be fooled.

Good luck in class next week. Hoping you get that one good sniff,
Happy Halloween

Chicken Dude would indeed be scary! Tell your Momma she needs to go to the fabric store and buy yards of fabric for proper full sized doggie bandanas! My momma says if you just cut it in a triangle you're good to go.

Have fun next week in Skool!

That treat jar is sure hard to ignore. Fudge finds that the lady dogs are just as hard to ignore. Being a good citizen is hard work, but you're up to it.

Mango, I think the odds of me passing the good citizen course are quite slim. I don't like my feets touched, much less resisting treats! You are a role model to doggies everywhere!

We are with the Herd - not sure either TD or Ciara would ever make it past the food jar. Phantom could care less. But you did great, Mango.

Bolo has a great contest there, wonder how many pups will get their Moms to participate - nil chance here:(

Happy Howl-o-ween!

You are a recall rock star Mango! It was obvious that you knew where the treat jar was and you chose to go past it! Amazing! I think this is a hard thing to do especially now that I am on a diet and am wasting away to nothing.

Niamh & Ambrose

(from Sammie here) I salute you, Mango, for I could NOT do that... at least for several tries with other commands thrown in (leave it, for instance). I'd do just what cute Tulip Tula did. Awesome job. I love your training place - it's furry fancy. Ours is old and funky, but I guess it works ok. But I like seeing you there and watching those movies. Good luck on the CGC. Avalon's working on that now. (wonder if she'll ever pass it!!!!)

MANGO... your Jack-O-Danna looked grrrreat with your furs!! Sorry it was tight.
Now about the Tula Butt Whiffing. Man, I didn't even THINK of doing that to Ruby or Penny until AFTER we were engaged. I'm just sayin'. Wimmen can be kinda Pawticular with what you can and can't do.. and WHEN you can and Can't do it. Be... careful.

Jed and Abby in MerryLand said...

Excellent recall and self-control, RH! We're sure you weren't scared by flapping chicken guy; he's lucky you didn't bite him. You were obviously rushing to impose your mighty body between your Momma and the flapping chicken guy, in the best bodyguard tradition. Our knight in brindle fur, ready to sting like a bee [even if you can't quite float like a butterfly]!

Way to go Mango! I was talented enough to achieve the AKC Canine Good Citizen as well. It's hard for us tough guys. We are so set in our ways and what not but it made my Momma real happy. A couple of trainers acted like I could never do it but I worked real hard with Momma. She was so happy she called my Grandma on the way home! Then I got to be a therapy dog but we had to stop 'cause Momma's took a job that made it hard for us to go on visits. Boo!

Too funny.

That's awesome Mango's recall is so solid like that. We've been working really hard but I'm pretty sure my dog would choose the food over me any day of the week. But you never know...

Good luck with the Canine Good Neighbour classes! If nothing else, they are a good chance to pratice flirting skills. ;-)
