I Have Finally Found the Perfect Bed

I got pressies from some of my pals for my birthday, but the stingy witch will not open them yet. She says, "Oh, Mango, we have to wait to open them until I have time to take photos and such." Whatever.

So on to the topic of the day.

It isn't easy to find a bed that keeps it's shape and is cozy too for a large and handsome guy such as myself, but I finally did it. Yes, friends, here is the secret...

Last week when momma was doing the housework, she put both my mammoth beds on top of each other. Now mind you, I have two sizes of bed, so one nestled rather nicely inside of the other.

Neither bed was doing the trick due to the cushions being compressed to flat little pancakes from my slumbering self, but one on top of the other?

Heaven!

Of course getting OUT of bed is, well, a process.

Maybe I can kind of ooze out...

Yup, this is working, now kind of pivot to the side.

Almost there, just have to figure out how to get my back leggies on the floor.

Maybe now would be a good time to take a power nap...

Good thing this carpet has some grip to it. Gotta haul myself forward.

Almost there... rear end has cleared the bed, now try to concentrate... gotta coordinate front end, rear end, oh dear, so complicated.

Phew! Made it! Yup, the Mango is officially out of bed.

It can often take me many minutes to figure all that out, but, hey, what else do I have to do, right?

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

P.S. From Momma
For those of you without giant dog experience, let me tell you that getting up is a process that can take several minutes. I think Mango's record for getting up from a down is about 7 seconds, but that is when he is VERY motivated. When he is asleep, it takes up to ten minutes for him to position and collect himself and finally get his legs under him. Often he falls back to sleep halfway through the process and has to be reminded of his mission.

The phenobarbitol is making him somewhat more uncoordinated in the back and he has more false starts actually rising from a recumbant position but other than that no bad side effects yet.

And of course he is the deepest sleeper ever. Here is a short video of his snoring. I love Mango's snoring. In fact when I am having trouble sleeping myself, I move one of his beds next to the couch and lay down and soon enough, that steady purr puts me right to sleep.

Maybe the Big Guy needs a trampoline bed - he could just bounce himself out! Actually Mom says it might not be a bad idea. She bought me an Aussie raised bed, it sort of looks like a trampoline but isn't bouncy but is about 8" high so getting off it would be easier and it supports the weight. I never use mine - mom has bought me so many beds - none of which I use - I like my cold floor instead.

Nice snoring. Franklin and I are both rather good snorers ourselves. We like to add an occasional grunt to change things up.

Mango, Momma needs to patent that sound for a new option on the sound machines humans use for white noise - bet she would make lots of green papers for extra good treats.

Thunder likes the double stacked style bed too. He gets that experience when Mom is cleaning the floors.

Hope the side effects of the phenobarbital start to settle down for you.

Happy Mother's Day to Momma.

Mango!

We are totally on the same page as you regarding beds but have to say, four or five beds together is even better than two!

Good news that he is adjusting well to the med, it will help so much. Yeah a snoring dog is restful to the ear, unlike a snoring husband...why is that?

WUT? mango's birthday is not a national holiday?????

I think a power nap is in order after all that effort!

Dog snores are adorable, but yours is the best ever, Mango!

Mom is LOL-ing at Karen's comment above! We have 2 beds stacked in our "den" in our living room which is behind a chair and under a table. That's the best spot in the whole house... Except lately Gizmo thinks the top bed is a stuffy which needs to be sucked dry... But Mango Man, I, too am a VERY slow riser. First one to bed, last one up!! Why rush?

HAHAHAHA! I think you should sell that snoring as one of those 'sleepy-time' CDs - that would totally make Mom fall asleep. Or giggle herself into submission - one of the two. (Actually, Mom says she like my snoring, too. Me? Snore? Never. Well, hardly ever.)

As for getting out of bed - that whole process looks so tiring, I think I may need to take a nap just from watching you. Dude. That is a serious production just to get out of bed. I am in awe. Total awe.

PeeEss: You STILL can't open your pressies?!? I'd call the ASPCA on your Mom, if I were you....

Waaiittt a minute! Are you saying that's not how everyone gets up? And what if our humans are in the hard floor rooms? Then it's really hard to get our footing! Sometimes my boys will help me get up. Now that is how a well trained human should behave. Sadly, the Evil Little Midget doesn't take lessons from them.

As to the snoring video, well, that's what we are supposed to sound like, right?

Drools,
Thor

(I give Thor glucosamine and chondroitin supplements every day, at twice the human dosage, as per the vet's instructions. He is getting up much better than he was before, and the improvement was fast. He just thinks it's his peanut butter sandwich.

That's quite a contrast to my springs in the legs dogs who bounce everywhere. I also have some champion snorers. Samba is the worst but several of her kids inherited the snoring gene.

Mango at our house, we call those beds a pretty pretty princess bed. It usually happens on washing day when all the beds are stacked for washing. you should try adding Dexters bed as well. !

Your snoring is beginning to make us feel sleepy, Mango!

Tee hee! When the bed is that comfy, why get up at all?

P.S. Mom said that the uncoordination didn't seem to last for Treat, but maybe that was just her. She felt that it was temporary, and once her body adjusted to the medicine, she was okay.

Mango, how come when I heard your snoring it was adorable but when my husband snores I have to poke him in the ribs? No worries, love Carol.

If a floor is slippery I can't get up without help, plus It takes me a long time to sit. In school my instructor says I don't have to sit after my comes and other tasks, I can just stand in heel. I think it's cause she doesn't have all day to wait fo me, BOL.

Scout is not a giant dog like you, just a big one but he will be sleeping on the bed and he'll move and start falling off. He just lets himself slide to the floor and falls back to sleep, lol. (we have a mattress and boxspring directly on the floor so it's not too far a fall)

Awesome pics and video, Mango :)
