Mango Update by Mango Momma

Thank you all so much for your good thoughts about Mango. Keep 'em coming because we aren't out of the woods yet.

The good news is that Mango is feeling much better. He is able to get around OK even though he is still favoring his foot and leg and his fever has broken.

The bad news is that the swelling is alarming and has gone up his leg a bit. I took some baseline measurements to send to the vet:

Foot: good 8.5" bad 11.5"
Above knee: good 7.75" bad 8.5"
Below elbow: good 11.25" bad 12.5"

(those are circumference measurements with a tape measure)

I will be discussing his progress with the vet this afternoon.

Of course life goes on and I am deluged at work. In addition to my regular tasks, I am covering for a co-worker on vacation. Plus, we got an offer on the project house which is great news but also means that the Mr. will be busy doing this and that little things that the buyer has requested in the offer letter.

Poor PeeWee has been somewhat neglected. I am trying to give him good walkies and tennis ball time, but it is very difficult to keep my mind from boomeranging back to Mango and trying to will that nasty swelling to go down.

In addition to his swollen leg, he had a large cyst on his tail aspirated and pee and poo tests are being done. He is currently taking the antibiotic Orbax to fight infection, Metacam to reduce swelling, and, of course, his phenobarbital for seizures. One does worry about the antibiotics reducing the efficacy of the pheno, but I don't really have a choice. He needs antibiotics.

Thank goodness for the dogs with blogs community. I would be lost without it.

Mango Momma

P.S. Just to show you how mental fits I am, I accidentally posted this on the project house blog. Ish!

Oh Mango, we are so worried about you, we can only imagine how hard it must be for Mangomomma who has to be at work when she'd rather be at home watching your leg. We hope that the swelling goes down soon and nothing serious is going on. All paws crossed for you!

We will continue to keep the big guy in our thoughts ans Mom's prayers. Wehope that those antibiotics start todo what they are supposed to do and the swelling comes down. AND that the poo and pee issues are also resolved. We are also thinking a lot about the
momma who has a lot on her plate right now. Good luck with the project house sale.

Nancy,

I am so sorry your going through all this with sweet Mango man. I just read about it. I heard about the antibiotics and the pheno - can you increase the pheno just a bit while he is on the anti? Crap I never thought about what to do when Fred needs an anti - Hopefully this will not effect his pheno level that is keeping him seizure free. Poor Mango and poor mommy, I will check in with you today.

Hugs!

Poor Mango. I'm glad your fever has broken. Could this be a snake bite instead of a wasp sting? I hope you're feeling better. Let us know about the tests as soon as you get the results. Hugs.

Hope all goes well at the vets this afternoon.
Fingers and paws crossed that the project house deal goes through OK. Sounds like the prospective buyer might just as well take that big bag of cash straight to the veterinary surgery!
Cheers, Gail.

OK Mango Momma. Gizmo, here. The swelling from my rattlesnake bite went all the way up my leg. I looked like I had a puppy leg, BUTT, lots of anti biotics and pain meds later (about 10 days) I was fine. They were concerned about my liver enzymes, so I had to get those checked every other day for two weeks. ($$$) I was fine. Also, our puplicist, the pheno-woman, has never been told about anti-biotics reducing the effectiveness of her pheno, butt maybe you should ask the vet.

Bart, Ruby and I all have our paws crossed that the other LAB work comes back fine. Please tell Pea that he is welcome to come out to CA for swimmies any time!

Your loyal reader,

-Gizmo

PeeeeS: paws crossed, also for the house to close - BOL at Bertie saing that the buyers should just take he big bag of cash directly to the V.E.T.'s!!

Sheesch...Mumsie is having a hot flash and just about drowned the puter...I'm sending her off to the freezer.

So...Mango...did you really say your foot is almost as big as my as er um derriere??? Seriously??? Your paw must be quite tiny then....

So...it was a wasp? Did you have to make that comment about his mother??

So you guys took off this week and went on joywalk, got stung by a wasp, Momma is swamped at the hardware store and Scruffy and Stan bid on the foster house?? Good luck with that last one...

I think your momma needs to schedule a massage...it doesn't have to be right away, but soon enuff for her to look forward to it.

I, of course, offer massage services. Just call Lacie; you know my #.

Don't know why I'm writing this cuz I'm right her in your purple Mango cave. Peewee and I have a date tonight...he's bored..works for me...
