My Grandpa Angus the Airedale

My Grandpa Angus is legend at our estate. Apparently as a youngster he was quite the scoundrel; ate through a wall, demolished a couch, and shredded a carpet. He even almost ate a skunk, hence his nickname of "Peppy."

But he was also a very good doggie who listened to momma and she even competed with him once in the doggie obedience (albeit at the sub novice level).

He did well, I am told, but momma said, "oh, I cannot bear all the waiting around at those dog show things" and so he never went back to an actual competition.

Look! It's Angus, Raja, and Baby Me! Can you even see me with my black face?

Mind you, when I arrived, Angus was already almost 13 years old and he had slowed down quite a bit. In fact he hardly ever moved about at all and just a few months after my arrival his old Airedale self just kind of wore out and he made his final journey.

I am sad that the only movies we have are of old Angus because I would have loved to see him running and jumping, but I compiled a short set of clips here. I hope it doesn't make you sad.

Mama Lamb made us an Angus stuffie so that I could always remember him.

We have photo compilations of all the doggies who ever lived at the estate. This one is of Angus. You might need to bigify. It shows his puppy self as well as the nice ribbon he won for being the handsomest puppy at a doggie show and his obedience competition ribbon.

Now even though I never met Pi, I am told she was the sweetest doggie ever and Angus was totally head over heels in love with her, so no post about Angus is complete without Pi photos. We even put their two pictures together so they would always be close.

Momma says that Airedales are her most favorite type of doggie ever!

I think I've just been insulted.

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

Hi Uncle Mango, your Grandpa Angus looked like a great fella. His walk reminded mum of Kara. The picture of you, Raja and Grandpa Angus with your Momma is a treasure. Thanks for sharing. No worries, and love, Stella

My mom's cocker mix ate a wall one time. He's a legend at our house.
Grandpa was quite the handsome chap.

Happy Monday,

Dear Mango Man:

We've never had a doggie eat a wall, but when she was a baby, Teka ate lots of cords - some of which were still plugged in! I think that explains a lot about her, don't you?

I bets dat Angus was right dere to meet my packmate, Tucker, when he arrived last week. Angus is very handsome!

Hee hee hee! Mom says Tara made quite a bit of destruction when she was young, too, but I only remember her as being old and grumpy - and the others never met her at all. Your cute puppy self is also nice to see btw.

It's fun to take a walk down memory lane once in a while! Angus sure sounds like a one of a kind sort of fellow!

Wow -- those are really nice picture frames. Maybe my mommy will do a photo display like yours for me -- that's neat! I think the video of Angus is great - love his bark!

We loved seeing the previous residents of your estate -- and are happy you and Mango Mama have those sweet remembrances.

Fun too seeing Baby Mango swishing his tail and romping around the estate with Angus.

We think it's very cool that Mango Mama has had so many different breeds take up residence at the estate. She's definitely not a "breedist!"

Wirey love,

Jake and Just Harry

Thanks for sharing your family history with us, Mango! We agree with Jake and Just Harry - very cool that your Momma and Master have had so many different kinds of doggies! Was Pi a foxhound?

Thanks for sharing Angus and Pi with us! I love that you've had so many different breeds on your estate- I like to have different breeds running around too! :) It adds interest to life! I would love to own an Airedale actually- love me the terriers!!

By the way, I was at a doggy funderaising event yesterday for the rescue I volunteer with and I met two English Mastiffs!!! They were GORGEOUS, friendly, sweet, GIANT dogs!!! LOVED them!!!

Mango, You were not offended. All love you, even your family. Every dog is special. Agnus and it was. It was nice to see, like Mango baby plays with Angus.
Angus was very pretty and he was a king. A king of terriers. And you're the king of the Dogs-Blogger-World.
It's a good idea to dedicate a memorial wall all the previous dogs

You had some really awesome fore-dogs, Mango. Between Raja, Angus and Pi you have some pretty big shoes to fill - good thing you have big paws.

I love, love, love the header photos. You look so tropical. But my 2-legged slave tells me she thinks Dexter looks like the "UnColaNut" guy. I have no idea what she means. I think it is time to put a hairball on her pillow.

That last comment almost did sound like an insult. My momma met a guy whose house is always inhabited by mastiffs, a truly proper doggie indeed, on a plane from Florida to Philadelphia. She knew he was a fine fellow as soon as she laid eyes on him, or so she said.

But it's nice to see pictures of your forebears. Even if they were estate destroying forebears, they are very important.

We love learning about the doggies from your Momma's past. Angus was just so handsome. We loved the movie - senior dogs rock!

Momma loves you too, Mango - we don't think she meant to insult you:(

well i was glad your momma liked Groucho's story so much because my human was laughing when she wrote it and that was the first time she laughed at her own blog. were you insinuating that i hand Groucho over? i must say it is a tempting prospect but i have grown use to the little guy and sometimes the enemy you know is better than the enemy you don't know. I love the picture of you and Dexter at the top of your blog. Dexter looks especially hokey er... dapper. I can see why you are insulted that your momma's favorite breed is the airedale. Clearly she never owned a wolfhound. love guinness

That fuzzy face couldn't make anyone sad! Looks like Angus showed you the ropes Mango and kept you in check. Don't tell the black and whites here, but I just love Airedales and have always wanted one - there's just something about those faces you can't resist. Oh. And of course, I've always wanted a Mango too. Ann TBL

Mama took a trip down her memory lane, thanks to your wonderful post. It's fun to see Angus with his Faithful Sidekick, the not yet relentlessly huge baby Mango. Mama is especially envious and maybe even motivated by Mango Momma's memorial photo montages for the ancestral doggies. Mama's always wanted to do that; maybe this will give her a badly needed kick in the fanny.

The estate has been lucky to have been home to such beauties.

You are such a tiny little baby in that movie. Awwwwww !

OK so we may be a little biased, but Angus.... what a handsome chappie he was.

We have photos of our hoomans first Airedale, Ben, sitting next to our pictures on the coffee table. Ben lived just past his 14th barkday.

Mango we assume you and Dexter are off to the beach judging from your attire on your header photo! Mango you just don't look very happy though!

Well, our Mom says her favorite kind of dogs are miniature poodles, so we're equally insulted. But we know Mom loves us anyway! And that's a very sweet picture of you and Angus and Raja! Did you EVER have small paws? I mean, there are entire dogs that probably weigh less that one of your puppy feet. Just saying...
