Feeling Better and a Word About Seizure Monster

I am feeling a little better this morning thanks to all your wonderful thoughts and comments.

I even got out of bed all by myself to take my morning phenobarbital. Yup, twice a day like totally forever to keep the seizure monster away.

For reasons which are unclear, idiot PeeWee always gets cheese when I get my medicine.

Watch your fingers, momma!

In the past when I have had bad owies I would take the tramadol, but I am not allowed to take that anymore because it is an invitation to the seizure monster and we don't want that, so I am making due with the metacam.

Did you see I mentioned seizure monster twice today? Well here is the third time...

My buddy, Gibson, did a post all about seizure monster. It has a lot of words but you just tell your humans to help you read them all. Why? Because seizure monster is very mean and attacks way too many doggies and it is good to have the information tucked away in your wee brains if it ever happens to you. So click here and read (plus there is a movie that has me and all my fellow seizure doggies in it).

Mango Man! Oh yeah!

P.S. From Mango Momma
At this point I can't tell if he is actually feeling better or he is getting better at favoring his sore leg. He did get up and down the stairs and do his potty without any help and the fact that he got out of bed when he heard the cheese come out is promising. I appreciate your thoughts and comments and plan on pursuing therapies such as acupuncture. I'm on the fence right now about keeping his x-ray appointment. I'm planning on calling them in the morning to find out the "then what's" of getting x-rays. They also do MRI's. And don't tell Mango, but he is going on a little diet. While he is at a good weight for a young, healthy mastiff, he needs to trim down a bit to lessen the strain on his aging joints.

Oh, Mango we totally missed your post yesterday about not feeling well. We hope you are feeling better today and we send you some drool. Has Momma thought about finding a canine chiropractor that might be able to help you. I know ours did wonders with Cleo while she was with us. It sure put more bounce in her step. We're glad to hear he is doing better! Our beloved Cisco suffered from seizures, and we discovered changing her environment helped tremendously. We kept her away from overly exciting things. We are sending hugs to Mango!

Glad to hear that Mango is doing better this morning and hope those x-rays things can be sorted out soon.

It seems acupuncture is a good option as it helps the blood circulation.

Sorry to hear about the diet, nobody likes this idea at all.

Glad Mango is feeling better and getting his cheese! I'm a little worried about the diet restrictions, though, and lack of cheese. I know how I feel when the doc tells me no more cheese!

Argh! The SM! Such a horrible horrible thing to deal with.

Hi Mango pal, just catching up and most distressed to learn about those seizures. You know you are lucky in having such a wise and caring Momma so you just make sure you do everything she tells you, and we'll be keeping all our fingers and paws crossed on this side of the Pond.

I'm so glad Mango Man is on the mend! It can be tough to deal with a could ailments at once, but you do a great job of it! I have been hearing more and more people using acupuncture and seeing good results. Plus, Mango the Porcupine would be a great sight!

Oh dear, I guess there are drawbacks to being relentlessly huge. Hope the meds help him get around better. He's a brave one--and so are you, Momma!

Glad to hear Mango is doing better...cheese is just so inviting! I hope he keeps on the mend and quickly! Thank you for posting the link to our Canine Epilepsy Awareness post and video, and a big Husky thank you to Mango for joining in our awareness campaign. Maybe, one day (soon), there will be no more visits from the sneaky seizure monster to any dog again. Be well, our friend!

Glad Mango is improving. At our house when one gets meds all get a treat too. Our late Suzie (RIP 2007) suffered seizures too- she took phenobarb which helped greatly.

It was the huge nose shot that did it, isn't it... Seeing that had to make you feel better dude.

But like some of the others said, don't pretend to be all better if it still hurts. I know you hate the idea of going to the doctor and all but lets see if they can find out what is the problem.

Your momma is like the best caretaker ever.

You know, Mango, when I had my acupunctures for my sore neck, the holistic vet still wanted to see x-rays so she knew that she was treating the right thing. Butt it sure did help me a lot. And it doesn't hurt one bit!!

Yeah, we had to do the pudgy puppy diet when Thor got older. It was harder for us, because I had a house full of well intentioned idiots who always shared their food with him. I did take Sue's advice, and start giving Thor lots of veggies mixed in with his kibble, especially green beans. They don't cause tooting, and do make him feel full (as did corn). I also bought small dog biscuits, so he could have 3 or 4, and feel like he had plenty, whereas he always felt ripped off with just one of the big cookies. I took 20 or 30 pounds off Thor in his last 2 years, and he got up and down much better. After he'd dropped 20 pounds, even his human brothers had to admit he was much peppier. Mango, dude, I'm not being disloyal. This is not meant to imply that you might be "pudgy." It's just what Thor's brothers called his diet, OK? Happy you're getting up better.

Blogger is trying to keep us from commenting again. Glad to hear you are feeling better, RH. Bet Mango Momma will manage your diet so well you won't even notice the lower calorie level. And maybe PeeWee will get to go on a diet with you, as he gets cheese when you do even though he's not getting pills :) Keeping our paws crossed for your complete recovey.

Treats are good things huh? Even if they do disguise those tiny tabs. I have not had poorly paws for some time now, but I am still taking those gluco thingy tablets - wrapped up in slices of yumminess of course.

We will go and investigate the seizure post cos Misery likes to know about these things, plus one of our husky friends here gets them.

Paws up for you pal

Jarly did a drug study for Metacam last year - it was like a miracle drug. :) He went from poor limpy puppy to running up and down the stairs and hopping into the car dog. It's super expensive, though, for big dogs. Our vet prescribed the "people" version (Jarly's a people!) - generic meloxicam, which is on our pharmacy's $4 list. It's been a life saver.

Sissy here. The brat gets a nom every time I get an eye drop too. What?! On what planet is that fair?! She just sits there and waits while I do all the work...

And tell your mom to buy frozen green beans and add (thawed) them to your bowl to offset the missing kibble. That's what Mama did with her boy dogs before us when they had to diet.

Grammy used to work with little children that the Seizure Monster would visit, and it helped when Grandpa Buddy (OC's Dad) woke her up that last morning with one. It is a good idea to learn as much as possible, so she is glad that you are all sharing information to help others.

Grammy always makes sure that ALL of US get cheese when Grandma OC gets her meds, too. She doesn't like fights and is afraid that what she calls the "Green eyed monster" will cause a fight if she doesn't make sure we ALL get something. :) It is a good thing to let the humans think ANYTHING that gets us more treats... right!? ;) The CCC

That's how it works in our house too. Whenever someone gets meds the others get a treat. That way no one feels left out.

I'll go read the seizure post later when I have a little more time.

I'm glad he's either feeling better or favoring better. That's a good thing. I couldn't imagine trying to figure out how to help the Relentlessly Huge go potty.

I'm going to read on to see what you decided to do and to see how he's doing. Sorry it took me so long to get here.
