The Lawless Lab

Friends, there has been an alarming proliferation of signs such as these in our little community. Signs placed where yours truly had heretofore enjoyed fun filled walks across expansive green ways.

No doubt, my fun has been spoiled by insane off leash cracker dogs and owners who do not pick up their doggie's business. But why must I suffer?

No Dogs Allowed? We'll see about that!

Why indeed? Because on this particular day, momma caught my sense of living on the edge, seizing the day, and all that nonsense and we breached the forcefield of that sign with only a brief quickening of our hearts lest we be caught out and thrown into the slammer.

Giddy with my new found sense of adventure, I felt compelled to leave a calling card in case some other thrill seeking pup should happen by.

Dexter was here!

And once that line has been crossed, my acts of civil disobedience knew no bounds. "What," I wondered, "is beyond these signs that is so precious?"

Hurry up or they will think we've parked here.

Why, it is the gigantic aqueduct which runs the relentlessly huge pipe bringing water from out west all the way into Boston!

Let's keep going! I think this leads to Agatha and Archie's house.

Oh! And where am I now?

Well, if momma knew the first thing about camera exposure you would have seen behind me this impressive estate.

An estate not one mile from our modest acre. An estate that sports 37 magnificent acres and a manor house to rival Downton Abby. And it is for sale!

I suggested we take a look around. After all, Master is always on the market for a new project house, right?

But this sign caused momma to revert back to her law abiding ways. "Oh, Dexter," she exclaimed, "it is one thing to walk about on public land and feel that one has some entitlement having paid taxes, but it is really bad form to stroll on to private property."

Come on, Momma, live a little!

Well, we shall see. I suspect that the more I can encourage her to seek adventure, the closer she will get to allowing me to tour what I believe would make an appropriate estate for my labraself.

And what of my loyal readers? Tell me, do you ever break the rules when out and about?

Dexter done!

Heh Heh Heh You Go Dexter and Momma! Hurray for selective reading ;)

You know I was thinkin that N O backwards is O N and since O N is a word, it's subliminal meaning must be ONWARD! :D Yap, that's what I think all those N O signs really mean ;)

Waggin at ya,
Roo

Mom keeps signing "Sign, sign, everywhere a sign, Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind, Do this, don't do that, can't you read the sign?" I think her remaining marble has just been lost. That said, oy! Dude, I'm not entirely sure we could live someplace that had so many, uh, restrictions. Not that we would pay attention to them, as Mom likes to believe she is a bit of a rebel (often of the Monkeywrench Gang variety, but that's ANOTHER story altogether). But we'd hate to see Mom get arrested. Especially since it might interfere with our frisbee time...

I say -- they should put the "no dogs allowed signs" closer to the ground at our eye-level. How do they expect us dogs to read signs up that high. Just say you didn't see the sign -- if they catch you.

I think that YOU should be allowed to go EVERYWHERE that Squirrels and Geese and Possums and KATS go. THIS is just another example of how WE are discriminated against.
NOT FAIR at ALL.

I wonder if anyone has ever actually questioned - just where are the boundaries for this "no dogs allowed" business. Does it mean within one foot of the sign - within 20 feet of the sign - within a mile? They are kind of nondescript in explaining 'where' exactly we dogs are not allowed. I think we need some good dog lawyers to challenge these!

Ummm... We have been known to tread past signs with black lines through pitchurs of well behaved doggehs sitting. We will simply give a nod to these doggehs and stride on... If it's public land heheh! (Ava's charged with ranger lookout cause she has the shrillest warning barkies). Go Dexter!

There are some mean houses in the neighborhood that have little signs of doggies pooping and a big X over them. Whenever I see those, I always go pee on the sign. BOL!

One of our favourite walks is accessed via a road paid for out of public taxes but which has recently had a sign saying 'private no vehicles' posted at the start of the road, presumably by residents trying to scare people off. Don't tell anyone but Gail always drives the two miles down the road to our walk starting point regardless. So we all are all in favour of (responsibly) claiming one's access rights.

We are so glad that you and your momma were not arrested for your illegal ramblings! What would Mango and the master do if you two were in the slammer? We do admit to some off leash jaunts at Jordan Lake but we do not have any picture evidence of such goings on.

Your friends,
Niamh & Ambrose

Oh Mango! I met a fabulous brindle mastiff Friday night. His name was Major and he was 4 years old. He absolutely stole my heart with his 230lbs of love, affection and slobber. I thought of you as I admired him!!

Everything's legal until you're caught. We've made a few 'leash free' areas in our part of the world...BOL! You just have to go early when everyone's asleep.

Oh Dexter, all the time. All the time. In fact this weekend we were tempted when faced with a dog park with three - three! different areas. "Small dogs under 20lbs., no exceptions", "Large Dogs - no exceptions" and "Dogs of any size, but of timid dispositions". What are two 23 lb. Bostons to do? It was a quandry, but since we were close in size (and not timid) we went to the small dog side. We usually go to large dog side because the BTs have larger-than-life personalities, but the signs intimidated us (well, me, not the BTs or Mr T). Had fun nonetheless. Ann TBL

We break the rules and other stuff, but that's because we are cats and we Rule so rules are not for us. Dex, you should be allowed to go where you like.

Howdy Dex, well as you know Goodie Two Shoes aka Rory, never breaks any rules but I on the otherhand love to break them. My favourite is sheep chasing, but there is never any signs so maybe I'm not breaking the law hehehe. We have a sign at the oval that says "Pick up after your dog" so I always break that one but then Mum moans, gets her plastic bag and picks up my poops. I'm trying to be a rebel but in a household of Goodies it can be a real chore. Take care dude. No worries, and love, Stella and Goodie

Blueberry's human said...

Sometimes, I want to let Blueberry off leash on the ball field. But there are too many park people around that would no doubt fine me. But who doesn't like to touch something that says to not touch it? Or walk somewhere it says to not? We all have a little rebel in us! ;)

Marjie said...

OK, Dex, I have a pretty honkin' big ego about what size house I can properly decorate and inhabit, and I must confess that the one you found is even beyond my imagination. I'm with Momma on this one: Stay away, and this is not a project house for Master.
